CHIFOO Event Exploring the intersection of radiation therapy and artificial intelligence

Join Connective DX on February 6 at our Portland office for the next CHIFOO event: AI-Driven Images in Radiation Therapy! Happening from 5:30–8 pm, the event features a talk by David J. Gilmore, PhD, Elektra.

What does artificial intelligence have to do with radiation therapy, you may ask?

The main idea behind using AI for radiation therapy is to allow tumors to be detected, without burdening radiation therapists with the task of monitoring the MR images for tumor/critical organ movement. The AI deployed, in the form of image processing (the use of algorithms to interpret digital images), can detect these movements both automatically, and much more precisely than a technician would be able to manually.

In addition to all of this, those deploying AI for radiation therapy must ensure that this technology is as safe and effective as previous methods used. Another challenge faced implementers face is to demonstrate to stakeholders why the end result makes for a better patient, and healthcare provider, experience.

David has over 30 years experience studying usability and user experience at the intersection of hardware and software, with 20+ years’ experience using this expertise to develop real products. In addition to Elekta’s Unity MR-Linac (discussed in this presentation), David was also the user experience lead for Logitech/Ultimate Ear’s Boom range of bluetooth speakers, and for GE Power’s ActivePoint HMI system for gas-fired power plants. Further back in time he also worked at Intel, IDEO and Apple, and taught human factors and HCI at the University of Nottingham.

The event will feature the following agenda:

  • 5:30 - 6:30 CHIFOOd and Registration: pre-meeting pizza and networking
  • 6:30 - 8:00 CHIFOO Meeting (including a Q&A and raffle)

Register now. We hope to see you there!
